  • 11/17 Serenade, Symphony, and the Sea

Four outstanding ensembles will combine to present Ralph Vaughan Williams' introspective Serenade to Music and his monumental A Sea Symphony. Vaughan Williams set contemplative poetry by William Shakespeare and selections from Walt Whitman's celebrated Leaves of Grass that explores universal questions of human existence. The philosophical musings of the Serenade contrast with the evocative imagery in the Sea Symphony, and yet in each case, Vaughan Williams' music is consistently potent and beautiful.
