  • 11/2 TIP Office Hours - Venture Capital with Elm Street

    Barry Schweitzer, Venture Partner at Elm Street Ventures will have office hours, Thursday, November 2 from 9-11am to talk you through your most pressing concerns.  Barry is also an Entrepreneur In Residence at UConn TIP and welcomes visits from student and faculty, UConn TIP, and UConn affiliated companies. 

    Ask anything about Venture Capital and Elm Street Ventures Funding.  Barry is an accomplished Venture Partner, R&D Leader, people manager, and product developer in both start-up and global life sciences companies with a very strong background and track record in protein and molecular biology. A serial entrepreneur, he helped start up two biotechnology companies that were spun out of Yale University, where he received his Ph.D. One of these companies, Protometrix, Inc., was acquired by the rapidly growing Invitrogen Corporation only 2 years after its founding. He remained for over 10 years in various roles with that organization as it evolved into Life Technologies and as it merged with the 50,000 employee Thermo Fisher Scientific Corporation. More recently, he joined Elm Street Ventures, a seed and early-stage venture fund based in New Haven, CT as a Venture Partner.


    Specialities: Product commercialization processes, project management, User Centered Innovation, Design Excellence. Extremely familiar with protein quantitation technologies, including instrumentation, antibodies, multiplexing, and detection methods. Also expert in instrument and reagent product development, and innovation practices.

    Elm Street Ventures is a seed and early stage venture fund based in New Haven, Connecticut. Yale University is their largest investor. While their emphasis is on the life sciences, with approximately 70% of our investments to date in companies developing therapeutics, laboratory tools, diagnostics, medical devices, and other health care related products and services, they are also active investors in software, materials, sustainable technology, and other industries.
