“Who is a Muslim?” Nazrul in Contexts

Situated within a U.S. imaginary marked by increased Islamophobia and xenophobia, this lecture considers the ongoing relevance of artist-activist Kazi Nazrul Islam. Known for his life-long dedication to social justice in the face of oppression, Nazrul opposed bigotry in all its forms. This lecture maps the ways in which Nazrul’s politics and poetics are even more urgent today.
Winston Langley is Professor of International Relations & Political Science at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, where he previously served as former Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. His academic interests include human rights, international political economy, and models of world order.
