Important University-Wide Announcements

  • Furlough Days

This notification applies only to employees at the Storrs and Regional campuses represented by bargaining units, with the exception of GEU-UAW and UConn Farmington.

As you know, the University of Connecticut and its collective bargaining units have recently ratified collective bargaining agreements. Likewise, the State of Connecticut has entered into such agreements with the classified unions. Generally, these collective bargaining agreements require three (3) mandatory furlough days for all members of the bargaining unit, consistent with the State Employee Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) agreement.

Where applicable, it is anticipated that the reductions will start effective August 18, 2017 and will be spread over the remaining pay periods of the fiscal year. Please expect the first reduction to appear on your check dated September 15, 2017.

For UCPEA and AAUP, employees may schedule their furlough days as they choose, before June 30, 2018, subject to the approval of their supervisor in accordance with University business needs and staffing requirements. Classified union members should consult the applicable labor agreement and work closely with departmental leadership for specifics as to scheduling of furlough days.

Please expect additional communications, including instructions from our Payroll department, in the next two weeks. In the meantime, questions regarding pay reduction calculations can be addressed to Seth Jodoin in Payroll at seth.jodoin@uconn.edu. Questions regarding the collective bargaining agreements and furlough day requirements can be addressed to Jessa Mirtle in Labor Relations at (860) 486-4373, or Jessa.mirtle@uconn.edu.
