  • Conversation Partners Wanted for International Ss

    Greetings UCONN faculty and staff!

The UCAELI is looking for volunteers to talk to our international students in July and August. We have an incredibly large number of students attending (81!!!) our Summer 2 session who would love to meet and talk with native English speakers. If you (or a friend!) are available for either or both of the two programs below, we will accept all able-bodied English-speaking volunteers.

    Conversation Partner hour:
    Time: 9am-11am
    Dates: Fridays, 7/22 & 7/29

Description:  This is the conversation time for our regular Intensive English Program students. The spoken English ability and ethnic diversity of the students vary between classes. Instructors design activities and conversation tasks related to material that has been studied earlier in the week. It is the most popular feature of our program as our students look forward to interacting with native speakers and putting new language skills to use.

    PLUS Conversation Classes
    Time: 10:30am-12:15pm
Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7/14 to 8/4

Description:  This entire course is dedicated soley to conversation practice and is offered to our PLUS program students. The PLUS program focuses equally on cultural integration and language learning. Most of these very enthusiastic students come from a medical school in Taiwan and are high-intermediate/advanced English speakers. There aren’t many opportunities to connect with native English speakers in their home country and they greatly value this time.

Our students are always grateful for the chance to share their culture with native English speakers. There is no preparation or special certification required on the part of the volunteer. Contact me directly (if you haven’t already) to sign up for these volunteer sessions.
