  • Director of Veterans Affairs and Military Programs

    To the University Community:

Kristopher Perry, Director of UConn's Office of Veterans Affairs and Military Programs, has decided to leave UConn for new opportunities after five years, three years in this role and two years prior to that as commander of UConn’s Air Force ROTC Detachment. This will be an enormous loss for UConn. When Kris began, UConn did not have an office or strategy focused on supporting our student, staff, and faculty veterans and military service people. We now have a program that is at the leading edge of best practices nationwide. Kris has developed highly productive collaborations with offices across the University and with external partners, including the State Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, Vocational Rehabilitation Program, Corporate Partners, VA Clinics and Vet Centers, as well as other schools across the country, with the goal of supporting all at UConn who have worn the uniform. He has developed programs, processes, and services to assure our veterans, their dependents, and military service people can access the benefits they are entitled to, and he has helped UConn expand the benefits we offer to place us among the most military friendly universities in the nation.

We are very proud of Kris and all he has accomplished, and he will be very tough to replace, but it is imperative that we sustain the momentum he has built so successfully. To that end, a national search for a new Director of Veterans Affairs and Military Programs will begin immediately. The search committee will be chaired by Donna Korbel, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Director for Students with Disabilities.

The members of the committee are:

John Armstrong, Director of Off-Campus Student Services
