Career, Internship & Fellowship

  • UConn SEC Summer in Guatemala or Ecuador

Social Entrepreneur Corps (SEC) in Guatemala or Ecuador is a 4-week or 8-week UConn Education Abroad program for any and all students interested. The 8-week program typically runs from the end of May to mid-July and consists of two classes and an internship. Upon completion all requirements, students earn a total of 9 credits. Participants will travel to multiple communities in Guatemala or Ecuador and will be living with host families. Students will also work with SEC and Soluciones Comunitarias (Guatemalan company partner) leaders to empower local women entrepreneurs and increase SolCom awareness in various regions. Some projects include the distribution of water filters, improved cook stoves, and giving community members access to free eye exams and affordable eyeglasses. Interns will be expected to assist SolCom in their distribution models and structures while providing advice and creating business plans to help the company grow and succeed. Students will be accompanied by a number of other UConn students as well as many students from other universities around U.S. There is also a generous scholarship opportunity for any student who applies. This program is a unique, interesting, and fun learning opportunity to gain experience and broaden horizons beyond the classroom for all!
