  • MRSEC - IRG Prepropsoals Internal Competition

The Office of the Vice President for Research would like to announce the internal competition for Interdisciplinary Research Group (IRG) Pre-Proposals.

The next NSF Materials Research Science & Engineering Center (MRSEC) solicitation is expected in April 2016. See http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2013/nsf13556/nsf13556.htm for details of the last solicitation. MRSEC proposals are evaluated primarily on the quality of the Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRIGs) proposed. The last solicitation states that a MRSEC may encompass 2-5 IRGs. These groups are composed typically of 4-6 faculty researchers with complementary backgrounds, skills, and knowledge. IRGs must address fundamental scientific issues. However, a focus on technological applications, especially with industrial collaboration/support, is highly valued.

In preparation of the upcoming solicitation in 2016, the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) will hold an internal competition for IRG pre-proposals. Potential groups, composed of 4-6 researchers, are asked to submit pre-proposals no later than January 29, 2016.
