    UCHI CALL FOR PROPOSALS

    SEED MONEY AWARDS: 2015-16

The University of Connecticut Humanities Institute, as part of its Academic Plan-funded project on Public Discourse, is offering competitive seed money for faculty initiatives in the humanities that seek to research the nature of, and barriers to, meaningful public discourse. The projects should ultimately aim to connect research to practice and, where appropriate, to establish lasting and sustainable infrastructure for the promotion of meaningful public discourse. Funding is up to $10,000 per project. The number of awards will be determined by the merit and scope of proposed projects. Potential areas of funding interest include the following (this list is by no means exhaustive):

    • Public discourse on divisive social issues
    • Historical roots of various barriers to meaningful public discourse
    • Deliberative democracy
    • Social justice
    • Civil discourse, its practice, limits and critics
    • Theory-practice partnerships for engaged research
