Study 1: Join the effort to understand the development of celiac disease

Dr. Huedo-Medina, Ph. D., assistant professor from Allied Health Sciences and a CHIP researcher is collaborating with Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Beth Isarael Deaconess Medical Center who are currently enrolling infants under 6 months of age who have a first-degree relative (mother, father, or sibling) diagnosed with celiac disease for the CDGEMM study. But we are happy to recruit them in the womb as well. Our goal is to ultimately help to predict and prevent the development of celiac disease in the future.

What is involved? Everything can be done at home or at an office visit - This requires no visits to MGH!

            -Online questionnaires sent via email

            - Stool collection every 3 months that occurs in the home (mailed to us)

-Blood test every 6 months that can be coordinated through your office (mailed to us)

    What are the Benefits?

            -Close monitoring for celiac disease

            - HLA Genotype testing to evaluate the risk of developing celiac disease.

Study 2: Do you experience symptoms related to eating foods that contain gluten but you are not celiac?

Dr. Huedo-Medina, Ph. D., assistant professor from Allied Health Sciences and a CHIP researcher is collaborating with Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital who are recruiting male and female adults with non-celiac gluten sensitivity for a 6-week clinical trial.

Participation includes a diet challenge (eating gluten powder or rice powder) and the collection of blood, stool and urine samples. Patients will also have small intestinal biopsy samples collected through upper endoscopy.

Individuals who embrace a gluten-free diet, but who are not diagnosed with celiac disease or wheat allergy, are eligible for participation.
