Research, Funding, and Awards

  • Funding Opportunity for Early Career Scientists

The Office of the Vice President for Research would like to announce the following funding opportunity from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Simons Foundation. This is a joint national competition for grants to outstanding early career scientists as Faculty Scholars. Awardees will receive a five-year, non-renewable grant whose size will be based on several factors, including the amount of external funding the scientist has at the time of the grant. The grants will range from $100,000 to $400,000 per year for direct costs. There are no limits on the number of applicants or awardees from any eligible institution, and candidates apply directly without an institutional nomination. Both basic researchers and physician scientists are welcome in this open competition. HHMI, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Simons Foundation encourage applications from women and minorities under-represented in the biomedical and biological sciences.
