  • 3/31 Dr. Paul Farmer presenting at E. O. Smith High Sch

    E.O. Smith READS and Roots of Development host An Evening with Dr. Paul Farmer, global health expert and founder of Partners In Health, on Tuesday, March 31 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the E.O. Smith High School auditorium.  The event is free and open to the public. 

    Haitian song, prize-winning poems from the E.O. Smith READS Poetry Invitational, and Chad Bissonnette, Executive Director of Roots of Development, will also be featured.   Thanks to the UConn Co-op Bookstore in Storrs Center, Dr. Paul Farmer's recent books Infections and Inequalities, To Repair the World, In the Company of the Poor will be available at the evening event. 

    E.O. Smith READS encourages reading and an on-going community-wide conversation.  This year's first school-wide community read is Tracy Kidder's Mountains Beyond Mountains.  Students have been engaged in interdisciplinary activities related to the text, including Haitian mural art projects, Socratic seminars, Haitian Creole vocabulary garlands, science units on Drug-Resitant Tuberculosis, and more.
