    Dear Colleagues:

You are enthusiastically invited to learn more about story-telling methodology and to explore its applications to the real and complex issues we deal with in higher education. Moving from our ongoing theme of “CONNECTION IS PREVENTION,” Counseling and Mental Health Services, in partnership with the Department of Student Activities, is excited to offer professional development training with the global organization, Narrative4 (N4).

Founded by over 100 writers from around the world, the organization is based upon the simple idea that knowing the story of another, we are better able to understand each other. When listening to stories, we suspend argument, engage our emotions, and, walking in the shoes of another, experience compassion.  By creating safe spaces in which to conduct story exchanges throughout America’s schools, communities, and the globe, N4 promotes the type of hope that drives individual and social consciousness, which fosters change.

I know it is difficult for me to describe the power and potential of this training, and so I strongly encourage you to check out their website, view the video, and read about founder Colum McCann. We (CMHS staff) first learned about this method in a webinar designed to address “The Pain of Social Marginalization,” and it has been used to heal communities such as Sandy Hook, where lead trainer, Lee Keylock worked as a high school teacher.

To read more about N4 please see:

This training will expose you to the basic methodology of N4, and will cultivate consideration of the applications of this method to our work with students.

Please RSVP to, Annadell Jaczynski (annadell.jaczynski@uconn.edu) ASAP. Capacity = 100.
