Research

  • Participants Needed for a Hearing Study

    What is this study about?
We want to understand the hearing characteristics of people who are routinely exposed to loud noise or music.

    Who can participate?
Any individual with less than five years of musical training who routinely (at least weekly):

    • Works around loud noise (e.g., works with noisy tools, works at a loud bar, etc.)
    • Participates in or attends activities at loud venues (e.g., sporting stadiums, concert venues, bars, etc.)
    • Shoots guns (e.g., regular target practice)
    • Participates in any other loud activities

What will I have to do?
The research study will take place in the Philips Communication Sciences Building. Participation will take about 1-2 hours scheduled at your convenience.

You will receive a free diagnostic hearing evaluation including objective and subjective measures and will be paid $10/hour.

You may also be eligible to participate in a follow-up study that would involve wearing a small device that measures your exposure to noise or music during your daily activities. For this follow-up study, you could get paid $100/week.

The research is conducted under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Tufts, Dr. Christine Hare and Dr. Erika Skoe of the Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences Department.
