Training and Professional Development

  • Senior Year Experience (SYE) Instructors Needed

Each semester, the Center for Career Development offers UNIV 4800, a one-credit course for seniors called The Senior Year Experience. SYE is designed to prepare graduating undergraduates for life beyond UConn. Course content includes but is not limited to Career Readiness, Career Management, Financial Literacy, Work and Life Culture/DEI, and Reflection.

    • Though the career center oversees the course and overall process, individual sections are taught by both career center staff and other university professionals.
    • Courses can be taught in-person, hybrid, synchronous, or completely asynchronous (we have models to share of all styles).
    • The course slides and leaders’ notes are prepared and a HuskyCT site is ready to be copied, so the lift is about 3 hours a week.
    • It is currently taught as a 14-week course, but it can be adapted to be shorter as well.
    • It is also S/U, so grading is on completion. If an instructor would like to have the content be graded, we can discuss how to make that happen.
    • Lastly, the course can be offered to all seniors, or a subset based on major or other group (ex: we have sections for Psychological Sciences, Communication, Regional Campuses, and SSS students)

If you are interested in teaching or co-teaching a section for spring 2023, summer 2023 or beyond, please reach out to me to discuss. If anyone wants to observe the class or see the syllabus, let me know as well. I teach on Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30 pm in Gentry 119 every other Tuesday and have class in-person on 10/11, 10/25, 11/8, and 11/29.
