  • Request for Homecoming Judges

The Student Union Board of Governors (SUBOG) asks for your assistance in judging the 2022 Homecoming events during the weeks leading up to, and the week of Homecoming (October 23rd to October 29th).  We would greatly appreciate your consideration in volunteering as a judge to help uphold these long-standing UConn traditions with SUBOG.

There are numerous events that our students participate in during Homecoming. Many of these events are competitive and require judges. Therefore, assistance from within the community is very important to the success of these events. The events we are seeking judges for include:

Banner Contest: Teams have the opportunity to create a banner that promotes the nature, atmosphere, and/or team’s theme of Homecoming and school spirit. During the weeks of October 21st-26th, these banners are displayed in the Student Union Lobby. Judges are needed to view these banners and give each team a score based on theme originality, overall neatness, and artistic quality.

Parade: Participating teams get the option to march or create a parade unit with a golf cart and march from Glenbrook Rd. to Gilbert Rd. Judges will be waiting at the end of the parade route to look for originality, group spirit, theme representation, and overall presentation quality when judging parade units. This event takes place on October 23rd 12-1pm.

Lip Sync: One of the most popular Homecoming events takes place in Gampel as teams perform a lip sync routine. Judges will be looking for originality/theme representation, routine, professionalism, and lip syncing. This event takes place on October 27th 7pm-9pm.

The Royal Pageant: The 8 Royal contestants are competing in various pageant segments to win the Homecoming Crown.  These 8 candidates have been voted on by their peers and then interviewed by our faculty and staff.  This event is held in conjunction with the Alma Mater Sing where after an elimination round the top 6 student groups are competing to win the honor of singing UConn’s Alma Mater at the Homecoming Football game pre show. This event will be October 26th 7pm in the Student Union Theatre.

UConn’s Homecoming gives student organizations an opportunity to build spirit, work as a team and show their pride for their organization. They all come in with such high levels of enthusiasm, creativity and talent! SUBOG asks that you please consider participating in Homecoming 2022 by volunteering as a judge.

The theme of Homecoming 2022 is “Husky Royale” with an emphasis on nostalgic video games. We anticipate that this will be a week of fun and entertainment for our students, faculty, alumni, and the surrounding community. We hope you will be able to join us in making these traditions memorable.  For a complete schedule please check out homecoming.uconn.edu

We ask that if you are directly involved with students/ student groups who are participating that you refrain from judging to avoid any bias. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up via this Google Form by Friday, October 14th: https://forms.gle/vbDHy2h2LwevPvUH9
