    The Center for Clean Energy Engineering (C2E2) seeks a Temporary Research Technician.  Under the direction of the Associate Director for the Research Infrastructure, this position is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and effective research environment by supporting and assisting faculty and students in their research activities at the Center. C2E2 is a dynamic, multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary (chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering) research center in the School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut (UConn).

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Safety and compliance with all EH&S, OSHA, and state standards.
      1. Responsible for safe laboratory operations.
      2. Train researchers in safe lab operation practices.
      3. Maintain training database and ensure researcher training is up to date, maintain researcher access to building and lab areas.
      4. Maintain necessary records, proper laboratory conditions, and safety procedures.
      5. Maintain complete inventory and SDSs of all laboratory chemicals according to established requirements.
      6. Maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies, gloves, safety glasses, etc., within prescribed limits.
      7. Manage hazardous waste accumulation areas and be the first responder for chemical issues.
    2. Provide laboratory assistance in support of the research activities at C2E2
      1. Maintain critical research equipment including furnaces and heating equipment.
      2. Maintain laboratory operations by keeping all equipment operating.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
    • Experience with chemicals and chemical waste management.
    • Experience with lab safety protocols.
    • Strong verbal communication skills and attention to detail.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a full time, six-month position based in Storrs. CT. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Work location is at the Depot Campus at UConn.
