Abstract: Through exploring religious and spiritual influences from an intersectional perspective, Dr. Mona Abo-Zena focuses on how scholarship can connect dots linking personal, social, and structural levels of lived experiences. In particular, she integrates critical interdisciplinary frameworks that utilize diverse research methods to depict underrepresented populations and their varied experiences across contexts.  By highlighting the use of windows and mirrors, she models ways to reflect experiences and people underrepresented in scholarship.  In particular, she focuses on how drawing on her own and peoples' lived experiences helps "produce" knowledge and reflects diverse funds of knowledge. She outlines challenges and opportunities in striving to be a critical scholar and how and why she is committed to this praxis.

Additional Information About #KnowBetterDoBetter Campaign: The campaign follows the lead of early childhood educators and their students modeled in an award-winning documentary.

We (a coalition of entities within and beyond the University of Massachusetts Boston) invite you to a 12-week #KnowBetterDoBetter anti-bias campaign inspired by the quote by Maya Angelou, "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better."

The #KnowBetterDoBetter campaign centers the 4 interrelated goals of identity, diversity, justice, and action of anti-bias education to guide knowing + doing. As children and adults, how can we make our world just?  We can make a difference by intentionally answering central questions like What type of human do you want to be? Each week we pose a question for you to think about and act on personal, social, and structural levels.  Then, pass on your reflections, actions, and related resources in whatever way is meaningful (conversation at home, work, the store, storytelling, art, social media with the #KnowBetterDoBetter hashtag).
