The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor-in-Residence level. This position is a 9-month renewable appointment with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2022, and is based on the Waterbury campus. The position is suitable for candidates who wish to pursue a career with an emphasis on undergraduate teaching with continued growth in this direction.
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching both the laboratory and lecture sections of the 1000 level courses which may include BIOL 1102, 1103, and/or 1107. Additionally, candidates with experience teaching genetics are particularly encouraged to apply. The normal teaching load for this position is seven three-credit courses per year or the equivalent. Other responsibilities will include the advising of undergraduate students and developing success and retention strategies for biology courses and possible service to the campus, department, or university. Candidates are not expected to maintain an active research program. Successful candidates will be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

- Ph.D. in a related field by the start date.
- Demonstrated excellence teaching 1000 level Biology courses (both lecture and lab) to undergraduate students.
- A commitment to working with a diverse student body.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience teaching large and small core curriculum undergraduate level courses in biology, both in-person and distance learning formats.
- Experience teaching genetics undergraduate courses.
- Experience in teaching high enrollment courses and teaching laboratory courses.
- Track record of developing and implementing inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices, technology-assisted teaching, and experiential learning.
- Ability to interact with undergraduate students in addition to faculty, and the ability to work with biology faculty across the main and regional campuses of UConn.
This position is a full-time, 9-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2022. The position may be annually renewable based on performance, budget, and the needs of the department and college. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the Waterbury Campus.
