  • Enrolling Participants for LGBTQIA+ Research Study

We are currently looking for youth and young adults (16-29 yrs.) in CT to participate in our free virtual online mindfulness program called Tuned In! This study is sponsored by the UConn School of Social Work and the Connecticut TransAdvocacy Coalition.

The program is for people 16-29 years old that identify as part of the LGBTQIA2+ community and live/work/study in CT. It’s an 8-week program focused on learning mindfulness coping skills to help improve mental health and help address LGBTQIA2+ specific stressors. The groups (which will have about 8-10 people) will be broken down into appropriate age categories (younger and older participants), and will begin weekly (1.5 hour sessions) sometime in the middle of January. Date/time of the groups will be determined based upon the participants' availability. Participants also get compensated for their time and can earn up to $130.

in order to be considered for participation, you'll have to scan the QR code with your phone and complete a brief screener. The research team will then contact you for follow up to determine eligibility.

We are also looking to recruit about 5-10 LGBTQIA2+ youth and young adults (16-29 yrs.) who would like to contribute on our Tuned In! Research Advisory Board. Board members would be compensated for each meeting (about 3-4 a year) to help inform the development and improvement of the Tuned In! program.

Would you be interested in participating in either or both? We’d love to have you.

This study was approved by the IRB, Protocol #H21-0042, “Tuned In! -- A Mindfulness-Based Affirmative Program to Virtually Address the Mental Health Needs of Sexual and Gender Minority Youth”
