Course Description:
An examination of 21st century performance from global majority theatre-makers, STAGING AMERICANS is a seminar consisting of the reading, analysis, and discussion of selected plays and performances. This class will analyze works by global-majority theatre artists to identify the variety of themes, forms, and aesthetics within four categories: Language as Identity; Intersection of Arts and Activism; Gender Narratives; and Social/Cultural Impact. Works by historically marginalized theatre artists will be highlighted throughout the semester.
