  • Division of Student Affairs Appointment

    After conducting a comprehensive and competitive search, I am happy to announce that Dr. Joseph Briody, has been named as Assistant Vice President/Executive Director of Student Activities.

    Dr. Briody holds multiple degrees from UConn including a BS in Accounting, a MA in Education and Doctor of Philosophy – Higher Education Administration. He brings an impressive background of experiences to this position, including serving as interim AVP/Director of Student Activities for the past 2 challenging years. Prior to that he served in multiple leadership positions in support of student development where he has demonstrated strong strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, responsible resource stewardship, and a collaborative and collegial approach in the creation and development of student-centered educational programs and experiences.

    As AVP/Executive Director of Student Activities, Dr. Briody will bring his extensive knowledge and experience providing leadership and support to a staff that provides programs and services that enhance students’ educational experiences as well as fosters their personal development, health and wellbeing. Dr. Briody will provide vision, strategic direction and leadership for a talented team of 31 full-time student affairs professionals, 18 graduate assistants and several hundred student employees in the areas of leadership and organizational development, major events and programs, trustee student organization support, community outreach/service, fraternity and sorority development, and student organization financial programs.

    In addition to leading the student activities team and all aspects of its operation, Dr. Briody will also serve as a member of the Division’s senior leadership team assisting in the provision of experienced, steady, compassionate and communicative leadership in the strategic implementation of Division-wide programs and services.

    The Division of Student Affairs appreciates the work of the search committee chaired by Dr. Eleanor Daugherty (Associate VP/Dean of Students) and composed of Krista O’Brien (Student Activities), Tadarrayl Starke (Institute for Student Success), Jose Luis Ramos (Student Services, Stamford Campus), Megan Buda (Community Standards), and students Kulnoor Saini (Pan Asian Council), Mason Holland (President USG), and Ethan Werstler (VP USG).

    Also appreciated is the outstanding work of all of the Student Activities staff, who stepped up during these past 2 years under Dr. Briody’s interim leadership and continued to provide high-quality, life-transformative programs and services during this time of transition.
