Creating videos: pedagogical and technological approaches
Wednesday, July 21, 1:00-2:00
Online
Presenter: Tina Huey and Karen Skudlarek, CETL
Teaching talks are interactive sessions facilitated by CETL staff.
The focus of this workshop is creating videos. As the university returns to in-person teaching, many instructors may wish to augment course materials through recorded lectures, or other kinds of instructor-created videos. Making content available for asynchronous consumption can help students review course material at their own pace, or preview material before in-person classes. Instructor videos can also serve an important purpose in communicating excitement and building rapport. Sometimes you may want to curate a collection of videos that others have made instead of creating your own.
Proposed activities:
• Review the value of, and some best practices for, video creation and curation
• Discuss the affordances of Kaltura, PowerPoint, and other platforms
• Go over considerations related to recording in the classroom
You are encouraged to share what’s on your mind about a course you’re designing or redesigning for the coming academic year.
