Dawn Carone completed her Ph.D. in Genetics and Genomics at UConn in 2009 in Dr. Rachel O’Neill’s lab. She then conducted her postdoctoral studies at UMass Medical School in the lab of Dr. Jeanne Lawrence. Dawn is now an Assistant Professor in the Biology Department at Swarthmore College, where she teaches Genetics and runs an NIH-funded, active research lab with undergraduates. Since her time at UConn, Dawn’s research has been focused on uncovering roles for genomic repeat sequences, with an emphasis on pericentric satellite repeats. Her lab is currently studying the misregulation of HSATII expression, a tandemly repetitive pericentric satellite sequence, in human cancer cells.
