  • 2/25 Poetic Release x EcoHusky Black-Out Poetry

Join us on Zoom today, Thursday, February 25th from 7:00-8:00pm EST as UConn’s Poetic Release and EcoHusky Student Organizations come together to create environmentalist black out poetry! We will be discussing the intersection between activist art, poetry, and environmentalism as we hold a workshop on how to create black out poetry from easy-access old books and papers. Come to create, release, listen and/or share!

For this activity, we are emphasizing the reuse of materials, so please come prepared with physical text of any kind: old books/textbooks, papers, notes from an old class, newspapers (daily campus), magazine clippings, things that you would typically throw out but can be utilized to create art from words! If you want, you can even choose to use environmental text to further the theme of environmental activist art! Also bring some markers/sharpies, paints, colored pencils; at the most basic level a utensil you can use to “black out” text you won’t use in your poem!

**Please don’t be discouraged if you have no prior knowledge about black out poetry! Instructions and examples will be provided! The most important thing needed is your open, creative, introspective mind!

We look forward to seeing you all!!
