  • 12/11 Moratorium on Holds Spring 2021

This message is being sent to all Associate Deans and Department Heads

    Dear Colleagues,

As a result of recent conversations between leaders in academic affairs, enrollment, finance, and student affairs, beginning with the Spring 2021 semester, there will be a moratorium early in the term on all new registration holds. Offices should not add any holds impacting student registration during the five business days leading up to the first day of class, through the add/drop period (first ten days of class). This moratorium is being imposed to ensure our students have ample time to address their holds in the days leading up to the start of the term, and consequently provide them the ability to refine their schedules in the first ten days of the semester.

No new holds impacting student registration may be added from Monday, January 11 through Monday, February 1, 2021. Holds may be added prior to January 11, 2021, as well as February 2 through March 16, 2021, at which point there will be a second pause on new holds until the Fall 2021 registration period has concluded for all campuses.

Advising and billing holds for late and/or newly admitted students and limited, one-off emergency holds (e.g., Care Team, Community Standards) designed to ensure care of the community and individual students are exempted from this moratorium.

We encourage all offices, departments, and schools/colleges to carefully consider the timing of their holds and how they communicate the process that students should follow to get holds removed. Please note that the Registrar will be communicating more broadly with students at key points in the academic year (including on January 11) regarding what holds are present on their record, and how to remove them.

Should you have any questions about this moratorium, we encourage you to contact the Office of the Registrar at: registrar@uconn.edu

    Sincerely,

    Carl Lejuez
