Brief Description:Gram-negative bacteria have an outer membrane and an inner membrane. They express several types of tripartite efflux pumps that penetrate both membranes and release foreign substances. Overexpression of efflux pumps is a primary cause of multidrug resistance.  Based on a high-resolution Cryo-EM structure, the authors propose a mechanism for drug release.
