  • 3/12 Farewell Reception for ODI AVP Elsie Gonzalez

The Office for Diversity and Inclusion announces that our Assistant Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, Elsie Gonzalez, has accepted the inaugural Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion position for the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) in Hartford, CT. effective March 23, 2020 after fifteen years of service to UConn.

Elsie came to the University as a Residence Hall Director in 2005. She was appointed Assistant Director of Residence Education in 2010 and then assumed the role of Executive Assistant to the Director of Residential Life in 2014. In September of 2016 Elsie became the Director of Diversity and Inclusion Programming Initiatives in the newly established Office for Diversity and Inclusion.  She served double duty briefly as the interim Rainbow Center Director and became the Assistant Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion in 2018.  Prior to coming to UConn, Elsie was a Residence Hall Director in the Undergraduate College of Information Technology Studies at Stony Brook University.

We are extremely happy for Elsie and wish her all the best in her new endeavor. At the same time, we are sorry to lose a pivotal colleague in our office known throughout our campus communities for her professionalism, diligence and commitment to an inclusive UConn. We are better as individuals and as a University thanks to Elsie.

The search for the University’s next Chief Diversity Officer is moving along and we will hold things together for them through the balance of the semester. The new CDO will conduct a search for Elsie’s replacement.

Please join us on Thursday, March 12, from 3:30 – 5:00 in Suite 311 of the Budds Building, to extend your best wishes to Elsie!
