  • 3/14 Emergency Preparedness Classes at Avery Point

UConn Rescue, a student organization at the University of Connecticut Storrs campus, will be hosting a day's worth of training in CPR and bleeding control topics for members of the UConn Avery Point community at the Avery Point campus on Saturday, March 14th, 2020. We will offer three different classes for any interested students, faculty, and staff who register to participate in advance. All of our classes are accredited and taught by certified and experienced instructors.

Our planned schedule for the day is to offer the following:

12:15-1:15PM: Stop the Bleed Class (20 seats): This is a FREE class designed to educate bystanders about how to respond to emergencies involving life-threatening bleeding. No medical background is necessary, and all participants will receive a certification that is good for life.

1:30-5:30PM: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers CPR/AED Class OR Heartsaver CPR/AED Class (12 seats total): We will be offering two types of CPR classes during this time.
    • The Basic Life Support CPR class is recommended for pre-health professions students and people who work in healthcare settings. This class is approximately 4 hours in length and concludes in both written and skills tests for certification.
    • The Heartsaver CPR class is the recommended CPR class for lifeguards, teachers, athletic trainers, and others who do not work in medical settings but may still need certification for employment or general knowledge. The Heartsaver class will have skills tests but no written exam.

This training date will be the only such training opportunity offered at UConn Avery Point by UConn Rescue during the spring 2020 semester, and there are limited seats available, so sign up today! Please visit our registration page for more information about how to enroll in a class.
