Human Resources and Benefits

  • Career Paths Timeline

The following is an outline of the three upcoming phases of the implementation of Career Paths.

    Phase 1 - Employee Mapping

By the end of January, 2020, Human Resources will notify all impacted employees of their mapping into Career Paths.

Phase 2 - Career Progression and Job Specifications

Following employee mapping, Human Resources will develop “Career Progression,” as outlined in the UCPEA contract (Article 31.2). Career Progression allows supervisors to recommend employees to move in-level from “Proficient” to “Advanced” to “Mastery.” Employees receive $1,000 by moving from Proficient to Advanced and $1,500 by moving from Advanced to Mastery.

Simultaneously, Human Resources will support organizational heads in their development of Job Specifications. While Human Resources has developed broad, University-wide Job Templates that cover work performed at the University, organizational and department heads must develop Job Specifications that reflect the work performed by individual positions (or like-positions). Job Specifications will be used by departments to evaluate current employees, to advertise for new positions, and to review positions during reclassification.

Phase 2 will take place from February - June 2020.

    Phase 3 - Reconsideration

The Reconsideration Process is the final phase of Career Paths. From July 1 through August 31, 2020, employees may submit requests for HR to review their mapping in Career Paths. Human Resources will review all requests and determine if an update to an employee’s mapping is appropriate based on changed or incomplete job information since the original request for job information in 2017.

Of note, the University will suspend the UCPEA Reclassification Process from February through June, 2020. Reclassification will reopen on July 1, but employees who participate in the Reconsideration Process must wait until a decision on reconsideration is rendered by HR before seeking a reclassification.
