Scholarly Colloquia and Events

  • 4/17 Dr. John Sexton Talk on Scholarly Engagement

Join the English Graduate Student Association on Wednesday, April 17th at 4:30 PM in the Stern Lounge for this semester's outside speaker event. Dr. John Sexton will be returning to UConn where he earned his PhD in Medieval Studies in 2007 to give a talk titled, "Publishing, Professing, and Scholarly Engagement Beyond Traditional Academe."

Dr. Sexton is an associate professor of English literature at Bridgewater State University where he teaches courses on Medieval and Early Modern British literature. He specializes in Medieval disability studies. He is the co-founder of The Lone Medievalist online community and co-editor of The Ballad of the Lone Medievalist (Punctum Books, 2018), a collection of essays on the academic lives of medieval scholars. You can hear Dr. Sexton along with his co-host Andy Pfrenger, who also received his PhD from UConn, on their podcast Saga Thing in which they read, rate, and review Icelandic sagas.

This will be a great opportunity for graduate students and faculty to learn about different  strategies for public engagement beyond the academy! Refreshments will be served.
