  • 4/11 Temporary Closure of Jim Calhoun Way - UCONNIC

The eastern end of Jim Calhoun Way will be closed starting at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, into the late evening as part of the SUBOG Spring Concert event, the UCONNIC Music Festival.

The music and recreation event, coordinated annually by the Student Union Board of Governors (SUBOG), takes place this year in and around Gampel Pavilion, and is expected to draw almost 5,000 people.

It will include a lineup of food trucks along the closed portion of Jim Calhoun Way, along with recreation activities nearby and the concert inside Gampel starting at 6 p.m.

Daily commuters who park in South Garage will be directed west (turning left) on Jim Calhoun Way if they leave at 3:30 p.m. or later.  Signs will be posted to direct drivers to an exit behind Hilltop Apartments that will be opened to accommodate the additional traffic.

However, they also are advised they might find it more convenient to use the garage’s fifth-floor exit and turn right on Hillside Road to avoid the heavy pedestrian traffic near Gampel.

Signs will be posted to alert drivers of the Jim Calhoun Way road closure, and buses will also be detoured around the closed portion of the road for the duration of the event.
