  • Summer Activities: Hiring Event Programmers

    Student Activities Summer Activities staff members assist with the operation of Summer Activities events every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and four Saturday trips.  Staff will provide fun, entertaining and creative activities/events for UConn students throughout academic summer sessions.   In addition, Summer Activities staff will provide daily administrative support at the Student Activities Programs Office front desk.  Pay rate is $10.75 per hour with three positions at 25 hours workweek.  Training beings March 1st and will occur weekly until the second or third week of May when full work weeks being.  The position ends the second week of August.

     

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Research, connect with and reserve various vendors for weekly events.
    • Communicate with student body, Student Union, Off-Campus Student Services, Residence Life, and Student Activities, as well as Town of Mansfield officials.
    • Plan, advertise and execute around 30 activities over the course of the summer for UConn students.
    • Event setup and breakdown  
    • Assist vendors
    • Provide fun and welcoming atmosphere for students, staff and faculty attending event
    • Staff members are required to attend weekly staff meetings and contribute to future themes and events.
    • Provide information to students, faculty, staff, and the general public regarding department services, policies, and procedures
    • Perform basic reception duties including greeting visitors and customers
    • Answer telephone, direct calls, and take messages
    • Operate a copy machine, printer, fax, scanner, and other office equipment
    • Run errands
    • Complete all duties as assigned by the Summer Activities coordinator.

     

    Position Qualifications

    • At least one year of experience leading a group toward a specific goal in any area (preferred)
    • Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks and monitor performance.
    • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills.
    • Capacity to work independently, assess programmatic needs, and develop creative solutions.
    • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the Storrs Campus and will be enrolled as an undergraduate in Fall 2019.
