  • 2/8 International Women's Strike Speaking Tour

On February 8th, 8:00 PM two international feminist activists, part of the International Women's Strike, will be giving a panel here at UConn, in Austin Building Room 110!

The two speakers: Lucía Cavallero is a sociologist and researcher at the Universidad de Burns Aires, and a member of the feminist collective No Una Menos. Her research focuses on areas of criminality and gender.

Julia Cámara is a PhD student at the Complutense University. She is a member of the coordination of the Spanish feminist movement (M8) and was one of the organizers and speakers of the 2018 women’s strike in Spain.

This is an extremely exciting opportunity to meet and hear from the women led upsurges and movements occurring around the globe right now!

This special IWS Talk is On:

”If We Stop, the World Stops!”

For more than two years, the world has witnessed extraordinary and repeated mobilizations of women in the hundreds of thousands. These mobilizations have included the massive Ni Una Menos (Not One Less) mobilizations in Argentina demanding that the state allocate money and take other measures to prevent femicides; successive Argentinian, Irish, and Polish mobilizations to legalize abortion; strikes in Iceland, France, and Scotland against the gender pay gap; and the massive women’s protests against Trump in the US. On March 8th, 2018 in Spain, five million took part in an unprecedented “feminist strike”.
Come and hear two leaders of the new global movement networked as the International Women’s Strike and discuss what we can learn about their experience.
