ConnPIRG is a student-directed and student-funded nonpartisan non-profit. We've been organizing on campuses for over 45 years to help students create a more meaningful future, and we believe that students don't have to wait until after graduation to make a difference in our society. This semester, our main goal is to gather 5,500 petitions for a statewide ban on plastic bags in the Connecticut General Assembly. In addition to the Zero Waste campaign, we are also running these campaigns:
-Save the bees: pushing towards a ban of neonicotinoids in Connecticut, while continuing our service learning projects and planting a bee friendly garden
-Hunger and homelessness: reducing the effects of hunger and homelessness not only on campus, but in the surrounding community as well
-Affordable textbooks: making textbooks more affordable for college students and supporting the use of open educational resources
-New Voters Project: institutionalizing voter engagement on campus
-100% Renewable Energy: advocacting for the use of renewable energy at UConn
