  • 2/23 Volunteers Needed for Middle School Science Bowl

The Middle Science Bowl is looking for volunteers to help make our event run as smoothly as possible! This event cannot run without the help of many wonderful volunteers, so please consider giving some of your time to help out. See below for event details, and please fill out the attached Google Form. Your prompt feedback will help us to put together the best team of volunteers that we can! The link below will take you to the volunteer survey:

NOTE: A separate email regarding participation in Science Demos will be sent out closer to the event date.  Please email us if your organization would be interested in demonstrating a science experiment on the day of the event.

    EVENT INFORMATION

Time: ~8 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. (Leaving times may be earlier for most volunteers)
    Location: Laurel Hall

    VOLUNTEERING ROLES

There are a number of roles that our volunteers will be asked to fill. Since there are 32 teams attending, there will be 16 competition rooms. This means that for each room we will need:
    • Moderators
    • Timekeepers
    • Scorekeepers
    • Room Logistics/Extra
Please see the following video for explanations about the moderator, timekeeper, and scorekeeper roles: http://science.energy.gov/wdts/nsb/about/coordinators/coordinator-resources/#Volunteer%20Training%20Video.

The organization of the event and the communication between rooms is just as important the games occurring inside. To keep things running smoothly, we will also need:
    • Administrative Assistants
    • Runners

    TRAINING SESSIONS

Volunteer training sessions will be offered in CHEM A-304 the week of the event. These training sessions will be required for volunteers who are new to their position. Veterans to their position will not be required to attend, but are encouraged to come and help new volunteers learn. The training sessions are on the following dates:
    • Monday, February 18th from 5 - 6:30 PM: CHEM A-304
    • Tuesday, February 19th from 5 - 6:30 PM: CHEM A-304
    EVENT SETUP

Volunteers will be asked to come in and set up in Laurel Hall the evening before the event. We will meet in Laurel Hall 101 at 6:30 PM to begin.

    PERKS AND THANK YOU!

Thank you for volunteering for this event! All volunteers will be provided with a Dunkin' breakfast, a Subway lunch, and a free Science Bowl t-shirt! Also note that this event is a great resume-builder and is perfect for organizations that require you to have service hours.
