  • 11/7 Psychology Colloquium: Dr. John Dovidio

The next psychology colloquium is scheduled for TODAY Wednesday - November 7th at 3:30pm in BOUS A106Dr. John Dovidio from Yale University will be presenting his talk titled "Racism among the Well-Intentioned: Subtle Discrimination, Implicit Bias, and Implications for Racial Disparities in Healthcare and Health". We hope that you will join us!

Abstract: This presentation describes research on contemporary racism and implicit bias and discusses implications for racial disparities in healthcare and, ultimately, health.  It explains how explicit and implicit biases among White Americans can influence the way they evaluate Black Americans as well as affect the dynamics of interracial interactions.  The presentation illustrates how these processes relate to the attitudes of physicians and shape the quality of medical care experienced by Black patients. Potential interventions to reduce the adverse effects of implicit bias are considered.
