  • Student Parking & Enforcement Changes

    Parking & Transportation Services

Students have expressed strong concerns about the fact that Parking Services policies define “overnight” as occurring between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Students have said the overnight policy prohibits them from leaving their vehicles in Storrs commuter lots into the early morning hours.

The most common issue raised to University officials was the fact that the Babbidge Library remains open until 2 a.m. on most nights of the week. As a result, students believed they risked being ticketed when they left their vehicles in a commuter lot until the library closed.

In response to these concerns, UConn has determined that effective immediately, permit parking regulations will NOT be enforced on commuter student lots between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. on weekdays or any time on weekends.

The weekday enforcement of permit parking regulations on commuter student lots will begin at 4 a.m. each Monday.

More simply stated, all vehicles parked on student commuter lots between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on weekends must be off those lots before 4 a.m. Monday.

Also in response to student requests, the following changes to student parking have been made:

    • Additional resident student permit parking capacity has been restored to Hilltop Apartments (map).  More resident student permit parking will be added there once construction at the south end of the apartment complex is completed.
    • Bishop Center (rear lot | map) remains an Area 2 lot, with that permit type required to park on the lot between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
    • This change allows commuter students to park on this lot between 5 p.m. and 4 a.m. on weekdays, and anytime on the weekends.  As with the commuter student lots, all vehicles in the Bishop Center (rear) between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on weekends must be moved by 4 a.m. Monday.
