  • 10/1 Birmingham, Alabama - Winter Alternative Break

Are you interested in strong direct service? Do you want to immerse yourself for a week in another community to learn about social issues you care about? If so, apply for the winter alternative break going to Birmingham, Alabama, focusing on civil rights and urban poverty. The trip will be over winter break, from January 12-20th. On this week-long immersive service-learning experience, we will be working with local organizations to alleviate symptoms of poverty while learning about civil rights issues that perpetuate these symptoms. In the past, we have worked with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, the Community Foodbank of Central Alabama, Christian Service mission and more.  Some types of service we could be doing is painting houses, shingling roofs, packaging food donations, and a lot of other types of direct and indirect service. At the end of the trip, we also visit the 16th street Baptist Church which was bombed during the 1960s, and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

Applications close Monday, October 1 (THAT'S TODAY!!!) at noon. Follow the link below and apply now to take part in this unique experience.
