  • 9/19 FREE Self-Defense Class

The UConn Police Department’s Safety Techniques & Awareness Resource Team (START) and the Office of Off Campus Student Services are working together to reaffirm our goal of providing the highest level of safety and well-being to the UConn community by offering a FREE women's self-defense course.

This 12 hour self-defense course, will run for 4 consecutive Wednesday nights starting September 19th, 2018 through October 10th, 2018; each class starts promptly at 5:30 p.m., ending around 8:30 p.m., each class will be held at UConn's Shippee Hall in the Pequot Room. The first 3 classes are mandatory to complete the course while the 4th class, which allows students to take part in hands-on, simulated training, is voluntary.  This comprehensive course helps participants identify realistic risks to their safety, evoke discussion of risk assessment and response strategies, and develop physical and mental preparedness skills through repetition and simulation training.

For the male members of our community interested in similar courses, please visit the webpage listed below for information on the UConn Police Men's self-defense safety program.

Class size is limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must attend the first 3 classes in order to participate in the simulated exercises! Online enrollment for this class is through our webpage http://publicsafety.uconn.edu/self-defense.
