A new research study on surgical skill evaluation in medical education!
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is inviting the following individuals to participate in a new research study on surgical skill evaluation in medical education:
- 3rd & 4th year UConn Medical Students
- Orthopaedic Surgery Residents
- Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellows
- Attending Physicians that perform more than 5 orthopaedic surgery/arthroscopic operations per month
If you meet one of these criteria, you are invited to participate in a longitudinal study testing surgical skills and correlating with medical field of interest and experience. You will be asked to complete a short questionnaire and perform different surgical tasks such as suturing, drilling and/or arthroscopy using two surgical simulators. The tasks will be observed and data will be coded using study ID numbers rather than names. Participation involves attending a few testing sessions per year per simulator, each session lasting about 20-30 minutes in the bioskills laboratory in the Medical Arts and Research Building (MARB).
Help us improve our educational capabilities!
The study is being conducted by Adam Lindsay, MD at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, UConn Health in Farmington, CT.
