Great American Smokeout At UConn Health
Sponsored by the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Wellness and Smoking Cessation Program
Thursday November 17th, 2016
3-5pm Onyiuke Dining Room
Patients, students, faculty, and staff are all invited to the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout!
Stop by anytime between 3-5pm and meet UConn Health’s Smoking Cessation provider, Diahann Wilcox, APRN and learn about the services offered, tips on how to quit smoking, and other resources.
Celebrate with former smokers and those who are attempting to quit with a group photo at 4:30pm. Light refreshments will be served.
There’s strength in numbers. When trying to quit smoking, support can make all the difference.
Quit Tips of the Week
Step 6: Getting Rid of Common Triggers
Remove things from your house and car that remind you of smoking, such as: cigarettes, lighters, matches, and ashtrays.
Wash or air out coats and jackets that may smell of cigarette smoke
Purchase an air freshener for your home and car to replace the smell of cigarettes with a new, fresh scent.
Step 7: Addressing Triggers
Keep busy! Go for a walk around your workplace or neighborhood.
Keep your hands and mouth busy by writing or doodling, and eating sugar-free candy or a low-calorie snack.
Spend time in non-smoking places and with non-smokers.
Call on those that support you.
Try deep breathing: in through your nose and blow out through your mouth.
For additional help in quitting, schedule an appointment for individual counseling through our Smoking Cessation Program or other quit programs, such as the Connecticut Quit Line.
