Great American Smokeout At UConn Health: Thursday November 17th, 2016
Sponsored by the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Wellness and Smoking Cessation Program
As the holidays approach, it’s a good time to take stock of our well-being. Quitting tobacco is the best thing you can do for your health. If you’re interested in quitting smoking, we urge you to join your colleagues in the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout on Thursday November 17th. There’s strength in numbers. When trying to quit smoking, support can make all the difference.
Quit Tips of the Week
Step 1: Pick a quit date
Step 2: Prepare to quit
Think about the reasons why you want to quit (to be around for your loved ones, to improve your health) and write these reasons down.
Post your list some place you will see it every day (on your fridge or car dashboard, for example) for motivation.
Step 3: Know your resources
Talk to your provider about different quitting aids you may want to consider using to help you, including over-the-counter nicotine replacements.
Individual counseling (offered through our Smoking Cessation Program) or other quit programs, such as the Connecticut Quit Line.
Remember: less than 5% of smokers are able to quit cold-turkey.
