  • 10/29 Nat'l Health Disparities Elimination Summit UPDATE

(NOTE: This is a corrected announcement, replacing a bad link that ran yesterday in the last paragraph.)

The 2nd Annual National Health Disparities Elimination Summit, “Living in America Today: Transforming Environments to Eliminate Health Disparities,” is taking place on Saturday, October 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Keller Auditorium.

Presented by the Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (CICATS) at UConn in collaboration with the W. Montague Cobb/NMA Health Institute and sponsored by the Connecticut Legislative Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, this exciting event will feature speakers who are experts in topics related to addressing health disparities.  The goal of the summit is to facilitate active discussions about relevant and critical issues currently facing the country and how different environments such as the physical environment (e.g. Flint water crisis), healthcare environment (e.g. role of diversity in improving outcomes) and social environment (e.g. societal structural issues such as gun violence) are creating or exacerbating health disparities. Through the participation of various well respected experts and audience engagement, we hope to generate new solutions to improve health outcomes in our communities.

Why now? "We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now... This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

We are proud to announce Mustafa Santiago Ali, Senior Advisor, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Environmental Justice and Community Revitalization Division, as the Summit Keynote Speaker.
