The Office of Patient Experience is hosting the 2026 Summer Student Volunteer Program from June 22–Aug. 14. We are seeking departments interested in sponsoring high school–aged student volunteers.
Student volunteers may assist with:
- Organizing closets, files, and shelves
- Scanning, filing, and managing electronic documents
- Answering phones
- Escorting patients within the building (no external transport)
- Wayfinding
- Special event setup
- Visiting with patients
- Assisting with comfort care items (e.g., pillows, blankets, water, snacks) as directed by the clinical team
Many participants are aspiring healthcare professionals, and any hospital-based experience is highly valued.
Sponsoring departments must designate at least one Authorized Adult Participant and complete the following by June 13:
- Minor Protection Training (approx. 40 minutes, virtual)
- Background check within the past 5 years ($75, paid by the department)
- Conduct Expectations for Program Staff acknowledgment
Departments are responsible for supervising students and ensuring compliance with all UConn Health policies. Students will be required to follow a dress code, sign codes of conduct, and maintain a pre-approved schedule.
Interested departments should review the Sponsor Requirements for Minors prior to inquiry.
To sponsor one or more students, please contact volunteerservices@uchc.edu with:
- Names of Authorized Adult(s)
- Proposed student tasks
Please note: no more than 10 students per Authorized Adult.
