  • Contracts/POs With Employees & Family Prohibited

UConn Health employees need to know that there are important restrictions on entering into contracts with or issuing POs to State of Connecticut employees, family members, and associated businesses.

The State Code of Ethics—specifically Connecticut General Statutes section 1-84(i)—prohibits state of Connecticut employees, their immediate family members, and companies with which they are associated from doing business with UConn Health except in limited circumstances. State employees, including UConn Health employees, are not allowed to use their position or authority for the financial benefit of themselves, their family members, or an associated business. Therefore, employees of UConn Health or any other state of Connecticut agency, their family members, and associated businesses cannot receive payment of more than $100 for goods or services provided to UConn Health unless a contract has been awarded through an open and public process or an exception applies.

This brief Office of University Compliance video, “Conflicts of Interest and Contracts with the State,” provides helpful guidance.
