Research Studies Seeking Participants

  • Ages 14-21 Who May Be Using Alcohol and/or Drugs

We are conducting treatment research for individuals who have problematic alcohol/drug use.

All study participants will be randomly assigned to 10 sessions of either novel integrated treatment (InTEGRA) or Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in an outpatient clinic with periodic follow-up assessments.

    Who may be eligible?

    • Ages of 14-21.
    • Youth who may have a need for alcohol/drug use treatment.
    • Youth not currently receiving treatment for alcohol/drug problems.

    What is involved?

Study eligibility will be decided through a telephone screener.

Eligible participants will complete an Intake Assessment in-person.

Participants will complete questionnaires at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months following the onset of treatment.

    Are there costs for participating?

    • There are no costs to you for your adolescent participating in this research-based treatment program.

    Will they be compensated?

    • Adolescents are compensated up to $50 for their participation in the initial assessment and each of the four follow-ups. They can accrue up to $250 for complete participation in the study.

When is it a wellness issue?

It is a wellness issue when these areas of life are negatively affected:

    • School/Grades
    • Work
    • Relationships with Family and Friends
    • High-Risk Behaviors
    • Emotions/Feelings
    • Legal Problems

It’s not “just a substance” when young people are relying on it to:

    • Stay calm
    • Cope with difficult situations
    • Get through the school/work day
    • Fit in with your friends

We can support your child’s well-being

If you are a caregiver or parent of an adolescent who is struggling with substance use and would like to learn more about the “InTEGRA Study” treatment program at UConn Health, please contact us.
