Early Onset Colorectal Cancer Study-Currently Enrolling Participants
Are you going to be scheduled for a routine screening or surveillance colonoscopy at UConn Health? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a study exploring early onset colorectal cancer (colorectal cancer diagnosed in patients under the age of 50).
Colorectal cancer (CRC) often begins as a growth called a polyp inside the colon or rectum. Finding and removing polyps can prevent CRC. In this study, we will be investigating the tissue that lines the inside of the colon in two groups (individuals <50 years old, and individuals 60-85 years old) with significant polyps to examine the mechanisms that drive early onset CRC. A separate control group of gender-matched subjects who do not have a polyp detected upon colonoscopy will also be enrolled within each age group.
You May Qualify If You
- Are under 50 years of age, or between 60-85 years of age
- Have a family history of colorectal cancer in a first-degree relative or a personal history of colorectal cancer or colon polyps or a positive fecal immunochemical test (FIT) or Cologuard screening test
Participation Involves
- A 30–45 minute meeting with a study coordinator prior to your colonoscopy procedure
- Completing a brief form about your demographics and medical history
- Providing up to 4 colon biopsy specimens during your colonoscopy procedure
Compensation
- Participants who consent to participate in the study will receive a $25 Amazon gift card
