Research Studies Seeking Participants

  • Pregnant Smokers and/or E-cigarette Vapers Needed

    This study may be done completely online and by telephone and/or in-person in Farmington or Hartford.

    This study is looking to answer this question:

    What are the effects of vaping e-cigs compared to smoking regular cigarettes during pregnancy?

    This is an observational only study, meaning there are no requests to change your smoking or vaping habits. There is no drug testing in this study.

    You may be eligible if you:

    • Are at least 16 years old
    • Are currently pregnant

    AND one of the following:

    • Currently smoke cigarettes everyday OR
    • Currently use an electronic cigarette or vaping device everyday OR
    • Use both products

    If you take part in the study, you will be asked to:

    • Participate in up to 3 visits pre-delivery (online and/or in-person), pending your due date, approximately 12 weeks apart
    • Complete brief monthly calls and one call 3 months after delivery

    This study may be done completely online & by telephone and/or in-person in Farmington or Hartford.

    You may receive financial compensation up to $400 if eligible.

    It’s $100 for the first visit (up to 2 hours), $50 for remaining visits 2 and 3 (30 to 45 minutes each).

    This study examines the effect of e-cigarette use compared to cigarette smoking during pregnancy on toxin exposure in women and newborn babies, and on birth outcomes.

    There is no drug testing in this study.
