Human Resources and Benefits

  • Caring for our Front Line

“We can distract from our difficult emotions, and we can acknowledge and tolerate them.”  - Dr. Cassandra Holinkais a clinical psychologist at UConn Health. UConn Today Article: " Tolerating Uncomfortable Emotions During a Pandemic"

To assist our frontline workforce in making your health and emotional wellness a priority, UConn Health has established some internal resources available, especially for you.

    Use the Comfort Room

The Wellness Center is currently serving as a dedicated 24/7 space for you to take a break, decompress, take a shower, and even have a snack. If you serve as frontline personnel and are a current member of the Wellness Center, you have access. For frontline personnel in need of access to the Center, please email wellnessbadgeaccess@uchc.edu.

Seek help when you need it.

Free, confidential on-site counseling support is available M-F from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is required.

Inside the Wellness Center comfort room, a private counseling space is available for you. Immediate counseling support may be accessed through telehealth with video capability, and by phone. Either way, easy-to-follow instructions for accessing a counselor are in the counseling space.

Debrief and Re-set: Become more centered while handling the stress.

Don’t take ownership of this pandemic. Stress debriefing available on a private, individual basis, or for  work teams on a private, group basis. Debriefings can be accessed in the Wellness Center private space via telehealth, and by phone, M-F from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also choose to debrief in a private space of your choice by contacting the EAP or Dr. Julian Ford in Psychiatry.

    Caring for Our Own

To help our providers and staff effectively manage stress and professional or personal emotional difficulties during these trying times, our providers in the Mood and Anxiety Clinic are offering counseling sessions, without appointment, and comprehensive evaluation and treatment sessions with appointments (scheduled within 24-48 hours).  All sessions are confidential.  See the “Caring for Our Own” options and information.

    Pause with Midday Meditation

The Department of Psychiatry offers you daily, live 15-minute sessions M-F from 12:15-12:30 p.m via Webex. Call 1-415-655-0002 (Access Code: 611 045 371) and mute your audio to participate. All UConn Health employees, students, residents and fellows are invited. For more information, contact: Jessica Meyer.
